Sophie Ecclestone is making good use of her time at Trailblazers to learn the Hindi language and Indian culture from her teammates, the England off-spinner revealed on Thursday after playing the starring role in the second match of the Women's T20 Challenge in Sharjah.
Ecclestone grabbed 4 wickets for 9 runs from 3.1 overs to help the Trailblazers register a crushing 9-wicket win over Velocity to grab the top spot on the points table.
Ecclestone and veteran India fast bowler Jhulan Goswami did most of the damage for Smriti Mandhana's team as they bowled out Mithali Raj's Velocity for 47, the lowest total in the competition's 3-year history.
The Trailblazers then rode on swashbuckling knocks from West Indies star Deandra Dottin and young Richa Ghosh to chase down the paltry target in 7.5 overs with 9 wickets in hand.— IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) November 5, 2020
"It's great to be with a great bunch of girls. When the wickets aren't turning, you just keep varying the pace and look to bowl as straight as possible.
"It's nice to get a few wickets. Some of the youngsters are really good. They are teaching me some Hindi and I am getting to understand their culture," Ecclestone said after being adjudged Player of the Match for her performance.
Dottin smashed 29 not out off 28 balls with 3 fours to make light work of the run chase. She got good support from Richa Ghosh from the other end, with the wicketkeeper-batter remaining unbeaten on 13 from 10 balls. She finished the match with a six, the one and only maximum for them in the chase.
The next match of the Women's T20 Challenge will see the Trailblazers lock horns with Harmanpreet Kaur's Supernovas on November 7 at the same ground in Sharjah before the final on November 9.
