IPL 2020 top 10 run-scorers: KL Rahul dons orange cap despite KXIP crashing out, no RR batsman in the list

1 month ago 6

Just as it was in the last season of the IPL, KL Rahul and David Warner have once again taken the top 2 spots in the highest run scorers of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League. Interestingly, not a single Rajasthan Royals batsman has made an appearance in this list. Let’s have a look at the top 10 batting performers of this season and celebrate their journey in IPL 2020.

KL Rahul- 670 runs

His team might have ended up at the 6th position in the IPL 2020 points table, but Kings Xi Punjab skipper KL Rahul is right up in the top run-scorers list of this season. The 670 runs that he amassed at an average of 55.83, while striking at 129.34, also includes 5 fifty-plus scores and a hundred. The unfortunate fact is that Rahul’s performances couldn’t keep his team from crashing out of the tournament, making the success of a batsman a failure as a captain.

David Warner- 529 runs

Tuesday, November 3, was a big day for David Warner the captain and the batsman both since took Sunrisers Hyderabad to a last-minute entry into the IPL 2020 playoffs. Chasing 150 against Mumbai Indians, Warner scored an unbeaten 58-ball 85 to take SRH to a comfortable victory and knock KKR, with a lower NRR, out of the competition. Warner has clubbed his 529 runs, including 4 fifties, with an average of 44.08 and a 136.69 strike rate. The SRH captain also became the 4th and the fastest to reach 5000 IPL runs, and also te 1st overseas player with this feat. The prolific batsman now has a record of 500 or more runs in an IPL season 6 times.

Shikhar Dhawan- 525 runs

Delhi Capitals MVP Shikhar Dhawan has lived up to the expectation of the camp and fans and it shows in the match-winning performances that the left-hander opener executed. Besides, he also became the 5th player to score 5000 IPL runs while also being the first batsman in the history of the league to score two consecutive hundreds- against CSK and KXIP.

Devdutt Padikkal- 472 runs

The third consecutive appearance of left-handed batsmen in this list, RCB’s young and able Devdutt Padikkal takes the 4th position in the list of top run scores in IPL 2020. With 472 runs in 14 innings, the 20-year-old Karnataka opener is also the highest run-scorer amongst uncapped batsmen, a feat that Mumbai Indians’ Suryakumar Ydava achieved twice, in the preceding two seasons (2018, 2019). Padikkal also ties with KL Rahul as the batsman with most fifties (5) in IPL 2020.

Virat Kohli- 460 runs

Following the young Padikkal in the top run-scorers list is his Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli, who is only 12 runs behind the 20-year-old. His incredible match-winning knock of 90* off 52 balls against CSK was certainly the Indian captain’s best innings in IPL 2020.

Faf du Plessis- 449 runs

Except for the margin between KL Rahul and David Warner, so far in the list, all other margins between successive scores are rather very little. Interestingly, only one batsman from the Chennai Super Kings squad appears in the list of top run-scorers in IPL 2020 and that is Faf du Plessis and is the highest among the batsmen who played 13 innings or less.

Quinton de Kock- 443 runs

Another incredibly close entry, Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock has scored just 6 runs lesser than Faf and has an impressive strike rate of 138 this season. Along with du Plessis, Warner, and AB de Villiers, de Kock too has 4 fifties in the IPL 2020 season.

Shubman Gill- 440 runs

His third season with Kolkata Knight Riders and two major things have happened for the 21-year-old Shubman Gill. That the franchise now have the opener slot sealed for the right-handed batsman and second, the Punjab batsman is now being treated as their own by people of Kolkata. Gill repaid the franchise trust with the 440 runs that he accumulated in this season by given them wonderful starts across games.

Ishan Kishan- 428 runs

The left-handed batsman from Patna has had an enthralling IPL given his incredible performances with his 99 against RCB being one of the biggest highlights of this season. In only 11 innings, Ishan Kishan has amassed 428 runs, averaging 47.55 and striking at 140.32. Interestingly, Kishan has tied with RR’s Sanju Samson in hitting the highest number of sixes in IPL 2020- 26.

Mayank Agarwal- 424 runs

If we look closely at the numbers, Mayank Agarwal has actually been the MVP for KXIP this season. Having amassed 424, in just 11 innings, averaging close to 40 while striking at 156.45. Mayank, in fact, has the best strike rate amongst the top 10 run scores of IPL 2020. In the absence of Rohit Sharma, a currently injured Mayank Agarwal has found a place in both the ODI and the T20I squads for the Australia tour.
