Chennai Super Kings have tried to be relevant in IPL 2020 despite becoming the first (and only team so far) to have been knocked out of the play-offs race. Having already dented Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders' play-off chances with two back-to-back wins.
As MS Dhoni's men took the field on Sunday in Abu Dhabi against Kings XI Punjab, all eyes were on the crucial Match 53 of IPL 2020 as a Chennai Super Kings win will not just end KXIP's play-off hopes but also boost the chances of the likes of Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders.
The IPL 2020 play-offs race has spiced up so much so that even after 52 matches in the season, only 1 team -- Mumbai Indians have been assured of a spot in the knockout stages.
With Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders going head-to-head in a do-or-die match later on Sunday, a Chennai Super Kings win would give them a much-needed boost. 4 teams, including RR, KKR, KXIP and Sunrisers Hyderabad, are tied on 12 points each. If KXIP get eliminated and RR clinch a big win over struggling KKR, Steve Smith's men will be alive in the play-offs race. They can even qualify if SRH lose their final match or either of DC or RC (who meet on Monday) suffer a huge defeat.
Ahead of the big match between CSK and KXIP, Rajasthan Royals took to social media to back their former stars Shane Watson and Ravindra Jadeja. While Watson did not make the playing XI, Jadeja was picked as one of the two spinners in the side.
"Rooting for you since 2008," RR wrote in a witty social media post with photos of Watson and Jadeja perfectly edited in both RR and CSK colours.November 1, 2020
Notably, it was Ravindra Jadeja who hit an 11-ball 31 for Chennai Super Kings and dented Kolkata Knight Riders' chances on October 29.
The Royals were quick to laud Jadeja who helped them keep their play-off hopes alive with the knock against KKR.
"Once a Royal, always a Royal," the Royals said as they have been winning the social media game this season.
