It was a rare sight on Monday to watch Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli struggling to hit boundaries against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

With the two teams playing in Sharjah, the fans were expecting to see a lot of balls towering over the boundary ropes. But the conditions on Monday seemed a little more tricky, and the RCB skipper admitted to it later in the post-match chat.

“We were very happy with the total. This pitch was drier. And the day was pleasant so we thought there would be no dew. Barring one superhuman [AB de Villers], every batsman struggled on the pitch. The talk was around getting 165, but we got 195 you know exactly why. It was unbelievable,” Kohli said.

He was right, though. Apart from AB de Villiers who smashed an unbeaten 33-ball 73 with 5 fours and 6 sixes, no other batsman looked close to being comfortable while batting.

Virat Kohli seemed to struggle on the day

A case in point was the skipper Virat Kohli himself. Considered to be one of the best batsman in the game, Kohli just didn’t seem to hit the ball from the middle of the bat on Monday.

His innings of unbeaten 33 runs from 28 balls was a stuggle. There was just one solitary boundary that he managed to get, and that was also off an outside edge. This was also in the 19th over and off the 25th ball that Kohli was facing. Prasidh Krishna bowled a wide length ball out of Kohli’s reach, and the edge went fine of short third man.

Virat followed was interesting to watch. Virat Kohli punched the air and jumped up in relief and shouted a loud ‘yes’. It was the kind of celebration that you expect from a batsman after getting to a tough hundred.

The celebration went viral on social media with fans putting up a charged up Virat Kohli’s reaction with comments such as ‘AB giving no reactions after hitting monster sixes, Kohli after getting a boundary off edged ball’.
