Ajinkya Rahane played the role of anchor and silently made sure that Delhi Capitals end up on the winning side against Royal Challengers Bangalore in a crucial IPL 2020 clash, according to former India spinner Pragyan Ojha.

Ojha, speaking to Sports Today, said Ajinkya Rahane is a guy who will never make a headline but he will be holding everything together for the team in pressure situations.

Ajinkya Rahane transformed a season that has run cold as he joined forces with Shikhar Dhawan to help Delhi Capitals secure a top 2 finish in IPL 2020 following a six-wicket win over Virat Kohli's RCB in Abu Dhabi.

Rahane, who had failed to do much in the previous 5 chances he had got in the tournament, played some classic shots to give his more aggressive partner Dhawan a free hand. After Dhawan's exit, Rahane continued the good show with bat and brought up his 28th IPL fifty in 37 deliveries.

"Everybody must be thinking Shikhar Dhawan played a brilliant knock but it was Rahane who was playing the anchor. He silently made sure that DC win. That's what Rahane is. He will never make a headline. But he is the guy who will be holding everything together and that's what he brings to the table. I am really happy for this man. He was just quiet. He didn't try anything till he made sure that his team crosses the line. He tried that shot when he knew that from now on nothing else could happen," Pragyan Ojha told Sports Today.

Big boost for DC to finish in top 2: Ojha

Pragyan Ojha said that Delhi Capitals have got a big boost after finishing in the top 2 and they now have an extra game to qualify for the final. Ojha also predicted that Qualifier 1 will see a good match between DC and Mumbai Indians.

DC chased down a target of 153 with six balls to spare. Dhawan (54) and Rahane (64) struck fine half-centuries to power DC to their target after their bowlers dished out a clinical performance and restricted RCB to 152 for seven. This was a much-needed victory for Capitals after four defeats in a row.

"Ajinkya should have the mindset of Prithvi Shaw and vice versa, that's how these two guys should play because I know Ajju very well. He is a very skilled batsman but at times the way he gets out he gives you the impression that he is thinking too much. He is a very good player. Today we saw the way he batted. Everybody was just thinking about getting Shikhar out. Nobody was planning for Ajinkya. But this man just made sure that he is giving that cushion to Shikhar.

"It's a big boost ending up at top 2, you get an extra game. Now you have less pressure because you know you can play freely. That is what happens when you are playing such a big tournament and you end up with an extra game to qualify for the finals. It will be a good match between MI and DC," Ojha added.
