Former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra came to the rescue of Yashasvi Jaiswal on Friday after the young Rajasthan Royals opener was trolled over his low strike rate during a 34-run knock vs Delhi Capitals at a venue which has witnessed big hits throughout IPL 2020.

Jaiswal, who was coming on the back of two single-digit scores, did not throw his wicket but failed to accelerate which was required in a 185-run chase vs DC on Friday. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 34 but played 36 balls for the same before getting dismissed on a slower delivery from DC all-rounder Marcus Stoinis.

A troll named ‘tuk-tuk academy’ posted a morphed image of MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav welcoming Yashasvi Jaiswal to the academy for his slow knock. Notably, Dhoni and Jadhav have been facing the heat in recent times for their slow knocks in the IPL 2020.

Aakash Chopra slammed the troll and urged others to ‘leave the kid alone’, as he tweeted: "Have a heart. That’s all I’ll tell you. Leave the kid along please. I am sure that senior players can take a joke but it’s unfair to expect same maturity from a 19yo"

Aakash Chopra further wrote, "Before mocking a 19yo cricketer, please ask yourself—what were you doing when you were 19? The kid you’re making fun of has already represented India at U-19 level, was Man of the Tournament at the World Cup & has scored a double-century in List-A cricket for Mumbai."

India's U-19 World Cup star Jaiswal, who was in superb form with the bat during the U-23 CK Nayudu Trophy, was rewarded for his consistency and talent by the Royals with a place in the playing XI.

Jaiswal was in a phenomenal form at the U19 World Cup in South Africa where India lost the final to Bangladesh. In the 6 World Cup innings, Jaiswal had 5 fifty-plus scores--including a hundred. The only time he didn't get a half-century was against Japan when India were chasing only 42.

He rose to fame when he became the youngest List A double centurion in the world after hitting 203 for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. His run-scoring spree also helped him bag a hefty deal in the 2020 IPL Auction where the Rajasthan Royals bought him for Rs 2.4 crore for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League.
