Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Eoin Morgan knows the calls have been growing louder for him to take over as captain of the franchise but England's World Cup-winning skipper has backed the current leadership group and head coach Brendon McCullum to take the team forward in IPL 2020.

Karthik's captaincy and batting came under the scanner after KKR suffered 2 defeats in 4 games but they bounced back in style against Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday and got back to winning ways.

Karthik has struggled with the bat, having scored just 49 runs from 5 matches so far. He has batted at different positions, and even come ahead of the in-form Morgan on a few occasions but nothing has worked till now for him. Morgan is averaging over 47 in comparison to Karthik's 9.80.

But Morgan dismissed the theory of him taking over from Karthik, insisting that the current skipper and coach are the right men for the job at KKR.

Morgan explained that it's not just Karthik who has to take all the decisions on and off the field, the senior players also play a big role in guiding the youngsters in the squad.

"I think it has worked really well so far. I think DK and Brendon McCullum lead extremely well within the team," Morgan told PTI. "Within aspect of the rest of the players, we have a number of senior leaders that take on roles that don't have a title.

"And within the team, that plays a pivotal part because when other seniors players, apart from captain and coach and vice-captain, lead or take on directions or decisions, it gives absolute clarity for the rest of the team."

Morgan also shed light on his role in the KKR batting lineup, saying that it's "flexible", depending on conditions and opposition.

"I think middle-order is quite flexible at the moment, depending on what team we play and type of attack we come up against.

"Different batters are suited to different bowlers and DK and coach are very good at reading what's the right way to move forward in that regard. We have lot of options which are flexible," Morgan said.

KKR are currently 4th on the table with 3 wins from 5 matches and will next face Kings XI Punjab at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on October 10.
