Chennai Super Kings opener Faf du Plessis was out for a zero in the third over of the match against SRH when he edged a Sandeep Sharma delivery to wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow.
It was the third time that du Plessis was getting out for a duck in the Indian Premier League, and it was his first since IPL 2014.
He has been one of the few CSK batsmen who have looked in good knick this season, and in a crucial clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, his team needed a good start from him, but it was not to be.October 13, 2020
In this do-or-die encounter for MS Dhoni’s men, the CSK decided to tweak its opening combination. So far, it had been the duo of Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis who had opened the batting for the team, but on Tuesday in Dubai, they decided to let Faf du Plessis partner Sam Curran. Shane Watson came in at No.3 for the team.
But with du Plessis getting out on his very first delivery, it was left for the rest of the batsman to provide a good platform for the team, and they eventually managed to get to a par total of 167.
IPL 2020 playoffs seem unlikely for CSK
The MS Dhoni-led team is languishing at the 7th spot on the points table with just two wins in seven matches in IPL 2020.
With very little margin for error in their following matches, the team will have to win at least 5 of their next 7 matches, and still hope for other factors to go in their favour if they want to make it to the playoffs for IPL 2020.
Du Plessis has been the best CSK batsman in IPL 2020 so far and is the only batsman from his team to be in the top 10 of the Orange Cap list, with 307 runs at 51.16 with a strike-rate of 146.88 along with three half-centuries.
